| Cultural-historical
monuments represent the remainders of the past times,
evidence of the existence of a nation, its history and events that marked
a certain period. A tempestuous history of the town of Cacak and its surroundings
left a numerous cultural-historical monuments. Most of these monuments
suffered damages, destructions and demolishing under war operations in
the past. Yet, a certain number of these monuments have been preserved,
and they are the tourist sights of our town.
ROMAN
BATHS
They represent the oldest material testimony of the history of the town.
They date back to the 4th century A.D., when this region was part of the
Roman Province Dalmatia. The remains of roman baths are in the centre
of the town.
THE
PALACE OF JOVAN OBRENOVIC
This building from 1835 was built in Balkan-oriental architectonic style.
At that time the centre of the region was Cacak, and it was governed by
Jovan Obrenovic, brother of Milos Obrenovic. Above the main entrance,
on the facade the coat of arms of the family Obrenovic was painted (it
is the only one preserved in Serbia). At present, the Palace houses the
permanent exhibition of the National Museum.
THE
MONUMENT TO THE SOLDIERS OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
It is unique in the world, erected in 1934 to the Serbian soldiers perished
during the war, but to the soldiers of enemy armies as well. On one of
its sides there is an orthodox cross, on the other catholic cross, on
the third Islamic half- moon, and on the fourth Jewish star.
MONUMENT
TO TANASKO RAJIC
The historical event which marked the 19th century on the territory of
Cacak was the Battle at Cacak with the Battle at Ljubic, which was a determining
factor in the Second Serbian rising. On the hill Ljubic there is the monument
to Tanasko Rajic, keeping memory of this legendary artilleryman, killed
in 1815.
MONUMENT
TO PARTICIPANTS OF HADZI-PRODAN’S RISING
It is located in the churchyard of the old church at Trnava. It has the
shape of unfurled flag and it keeps reminding us of those who fought under
the flag of Hadzi-Prodan Gligorijevic in 1814.
MONUMENT
TO COMMANDER IN CHIEF STEPA STEPANOVIC
It stands in front of the main post office in Cacak. The plaques which
bear the years in which battles he took part in happened were inbuilt
in the pavement from the monument to the house where Stepa Stepanovic
lived. |
